A one-person studio building practical technology for people who do hard things.
THE STORY BEHIND MACH5 STUDIOS
BUILT FROM EXPERIENCE. POWERED BY CURIOSITY.
MACH5 Studios is the independent software studio of Mark Cotroneo, a former Army K9 Military Police soldier, law-enforcement K9 handler, and longtime national fitness consultant who took an unexpected path into technology.
After watching AI disrupt the career I'd spent more than two decades building, I decided to learn it instead of fear it.
CareLeo is designed to help families stay organized while caring for someone who depends on them. Leo, the in-app AI companion, brings medications, daily care tasks, schedules, care records, and caregiving questions into one place.
It is built for situations where more than one person may be involved in care, with tools for sharing responsibilities and keeping the care team informed.

Daily Vector
Personal AI journal companion
Daily Vector turns journaling into a conversation. Vector responds to your reflections with personalized insights based on the profile and history you build inside the app.
You can journal by voice or text, revisit important moments, think through future choices, and ask Vector questions in a private personal space called The Sanctum.

GiftIQ
AI-powered gift assistant
GiftIQ is built to take the guesswork out of gift shopping. Create a profile for someone and the app uses AI to generate gift ideas shaped around that person's interests, style, lifestyle, and preferences.
The goal is to move beyond generic gift lists and help you find ideas that feel more personal, especially for people who are difficult to shop for.
K9Scout was built to serve the K9 community, and as it grows, part of that growth is intended to go back to the dogs and teams who serve.
ACE · THE SPARK
Polk County K9 Ace was shot while protecting deputies and lost a front leg. His courage turned K9Scout's mission into something larger.
SMOKEY · THE HEART
Smokey was Mark's narcotics detection Labrador with Pinellas County Schools Police. He died of cancer at only three years old while still in service.

Inside K9Scout
AI-assisted K9 records & reporting.
Built by a former K9 handler for the people still doing the job, K9Scout brings deployment reporting, training, certifications, court tracking, K9 profiles, medical history, supervisor review and AI-assisted documentation into one connected platform.
If it takes longer to document the work than it took to do the work, the tool has failed.
Narration-first field reports
Handlers can begin with spoken narration. Scout checks for important missing details, asks follow-up questions, and helps build a first draft. The handler reviews, edits and signs the final report.
Training & performance history
Document narcotics or explosives detection, patrol, bite work, tracking, building searches, obedience and other unit-defined training while preserving a consistent history for each dog and handler.
Supervisor workflow
Role-aware review connects handlers and supervisors so reports can be reviewed, returned for correction and approved without separating the documentation from the rest of the unit record.
Court, vet & recertification
Track subpoenas, hearings, depositions, veterinary appointments, demonstrations, training evaluations and recertifications, with advance alerts and linked case-report review for court events.
A record that follows the dog
Keep breed, age, operational status, trained odors, handler assignment, deployments, certifications, training and medical history organized around the individual K9.
Security & agency separation
PIN and device biometric access, encryption in transit and at rest, agency-level data separation and role-based access help keep operational records limited to authorized users.
Scout AI
A second set of eyes, not a replacement for the officer.
Scout is configured as a K9-focused mentor and report-writing coach. It can flag missing documentation details and reinforce stronger habits over time, but it does not invent facts, determine probable cause, replace agency policy or replace supervisory judgment. Source narration, the AI first draft and the final signed report can remain distinct for auditability.
Standards-aware
Built around strong documentation.
K9Scout's reporting and training structure is designed to align with relevant ANSI/ASB law-enforcement K9 documentation standards, including Standards 088 and 092. It is not presented as formally ANSI/ASB certified.
I've spent most of my life stepping into responsibility early, and staying qualified for it. I joined the Army at 18, straight out of high school, airborne K9 military police, and served during wartime. I came home and went straight into civilian law enforcement, working K9 for years across a 13.5 year career, trusting a dog with my life and learning what it means to actually have someone's back. After law enforcement, I spent 22 years on the road as a fitness consultant, helping people across the country lose weight and rebuild their confidence, mostly on charisma and empathy that came naturally, not from a script.
That career ended when AI started doing the job. It wasn't a slow fade, it was a real loss, the kind that makes you stop and figure out what's actually left standing when the thing you built your identity around gets automated out from under you. I could have taken that as a reason to be bitter about AI. Instead I got curious about it, then I got serious about it, and eventually I taught myself to build software with it. MACH5 Studios came out of that pivot directly, not despite losing the fitness work, but because of it.
None of that would mean much without the people I come home to. My wife Hayley has been beside me through most of it, from the road to QA testing every app I build. I've got three daughters. One still lives with us, and I get to show up for her homework even on the tired nights. The other two are grown and out living their lives, and I miss them more than I probably show. Family comes first, and everything else, including the work, gets built around that. My values haven't changed through any of these chapters: show up, do right by people, and don't fake it.
